Wyncote, PA – SoMont Cycling & Philly Wiss Youth Mountain Bike Teams, chapter teams of local 501(c)(3) non-profit Independence Youth Cycling (IYC), are excited to announce that pre-registration for the 2023 youth mountain bike season is now open!
The IYC organization, started in 2016, has been a leader in promoting youth cycling in lower Montgomery County and Northwest Philadelphia. The SoMont and Philly Wiss teams participate in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League (PICL) and the National Interscholastic Cycling League (NICA).
In 2022, the Independence Youth Cycling family of teams supported 85 student athletes and over 60 adult coaches. The organization is committed to creating a positive and supportive environment for young athletes to grow and develop their skills in mountain biking.
A parent of one of the team’s athletes spoke highly of the program, stating, “There are not enough words to describe what this team has done for my son and our family. From the financial support, making us feel important to the team. The energy that the staff gives to all families is a true blessing.”
The teams offer programs for riders of all levels, from beginner to advanced riders. The team’s experienced coaches provide a safe and fun environment for riders to develop their skills and build confidence on the trails.
“We are thrilled to offer pre-registration for the youth mountain bike season,” said a spokesperson for Independence Youth Cycling. “We believe that cycling is a great way for young people to stay active, make new friends, and learn important life skills. Our team is dedicated to providing a positive and supportive environment for all riders, and we look forward to welcoming new members to our community.”
General Guidelines for the Youth Mountain Bike Season:
- Boys and girls in grades 6-12 starting in the fall 2023 school year
- Practice season starts July 1, 2023
- Event season late August thru end of October (races and events throughout Pennsylvania)
- Team Registration opens around April 15
- “TryIt Rides” and get-to-know-ya events in April and May
- Financial aid, bikes, and equipment available
