IYCX: Weekly Rewind, Monday Mentions, Workout of the Week and more!

Hello IYC Cyclocross Team Members!

This is our first weekly team communication. Our goal is to send out a weekly email on Mondays to recap the events of the prior week in our Weekly Rewind section, give some team shout outs and acknowledge accomplishments in Monday Mentions, review any tasks or requests in Housekeeping Items and, soon to be your favorite and definitely mine, the WOTW (workout of the week). The WOTW will contain a suggested riding focus for the week and, as we near ‘cross season, start to include weekly skills practice that can be done at your local park! Cyclocross is coming!

Weekly Rewind

Team IYCC members did a gravel ride on the canal path out of Lambertville, NJ on Sunday for a 20+ mile ride. The canal path was mostly shaded so that helped take the edge of the heat wave we have been experiencing as of late. Colton, Henry, Rocco and Pearson kept the pace lively in the front group followed by Hannah and Kyleigh. The trail was fairly busy with other cyclists, runners and walkers and it was great to see the good cycling etiquette shown by our riders when passing. The ride ended at OWowCow Creamery for some delicious ice cream. Thanks John & Dave!

Monday Mentions

  • Congrats to Kyleigh who was riding her new ‘cross bike today! She will be heading to NICA camp this week in VT.
  • Best of luck to Pearson and Selah who will be doing MTB Nationals this week! And good luck to anyone else racing MTB NATs if I missed you!
  • Nice riding everyone who came out for the gravel ride Sunday. I saw smooth pace lines and great spinning out there! Thank you parents and coaches Linda and John Elgart for joining us!

Feel free to let us know what you are up to outside of ‘cross for our Monday Mentions.

WOTW – Workout of the Week

The goal for this week is not so much a workout but a focus on getting outside and riding your ‘cross bike, if you have one, or your mountain bike (if no ‘cross bike yet). This time of year you may have spent more time on your road bike, track bike or your MTN bike. As ‘cross season approaches we need to remind ourselves how the ‘cross bike feels to ride and establish that bike-brain-body connection. Take it out, go exploring and have fun! Let us know if you discover any new riding spots or any new tricks.
