Following a year of thoughtful growth and collaborative success, Independence Youth Cycling (IYC) is thrilled to announce an expansion into the adrenaline-fueled world of cyclocross, in partnership with Guy’s Racing Club. This move capitalizes on the vibrant cyclocross scene in Philadelphia and the Mid-Atlantic, drawing on the region’s rich tradition of this high-octane sport.
At the forefront of this new program is Dave Berson, a pioneer of the cycling community and a current IYC coach. Dave’s extensive cycling pedigree as a lifelong rider, racer, and a prominent figure in local cycling groups, sets the pace for our program. As a NICA Level 3 coach and a previous founder of the Philadelphia Cyclocross School, Dave brings unparalleled expertise to his role as IYC’s Director of Cyclocross.
Dave’s vision for the program is clear and compelling: “I’m stoked to present another track for our young athletes to push their limits, hone their skills, and ignite a lifelong passion for cycling. Independence Youth Cycling, in synergy with Guy’s Racing Club, provides the ultimate path to make this happen.”
The cyclocross team will be a part of IYC’s new USA Cycling Club, welcoming all youth across genders, ages 10 and above, and fielding riders up to a U23 team. With a reach stretching across Southeastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey, the team is set to become a melting pot of young cycling enthusiasts.
IYC’s partnership with Guy’s Racing Club, a cornerstone of the cycling community rooted in Guy’s Bicycle Shop in Feasterville, PA, will bring a wealth of cyclocross and event management expertise to the program. This collaboration recognizes the shared commitment to youth development in the sport.
The calendar is marked with premier events such as Whirlybird Cross, Terror at Twining, Frosty Cross, and Carpenter Cross, offering riders a stage to showcase their mettle and sportsmanship. As Dave steps into the dual role of Co-President of Guy’s Racing Club, both IYC and GRC solidify a relationship that will drive the future of youth cyclocross.
