Philadelphia, PA – Independence Youth Cycling (IYC) is delighted to announce its participation in the much-anticipated Fish Fest 2024, organized by the Riverfront North Partnership (RNP), on June 1, 2024, at the scenic Frankford Boat Launch, 5501 Tacony St, Philadelphia, PA 19137, from 3 pm to 6 pm. This marks a significant milestone for IYC as it unveils two groundbreaking programs: the Bike Skills Rodeo and Bikes on Demand, catering to the vibrant community of Philadelphia.
Event Overview
Set against the backdrop of the Delaware River and at the terminus of the K&T trail, Fish Fest celebrates the myriad recreational opportunities our riverfront offers. IYC’s presence introduces a dynamic dimension to this celebration, focusing on youth engagement, skill development, and fostering a lifelong love for cycling.
Our Mission and Vision
Since its establishment, IYC has been committed to changing lives through cycling, serving the greater Philadelphia area as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our mission is to inspire youth to become their best selves using bicycling to develop confidence, character, and a sense of community. IYC supports a diverse range of cycling disciplines, including MTB, downhill, enduro, cyclocross, and gravel, under both NICA and non-NICA series. Through our programs, we aim to build diverse communities, enriching the lives of students, families, and beyond with our youth-focused bicycle-centric programming and activities.
Bike Skills Rodeo
The Bike Skills Rodeo, a novel initiative by IYC, is designed to engage youth in a fun and educational environment. Participants will navigate through a series of obstacle courses and skill stations, tailored to enhance their cycling abilities and safety awareness. This event is particularly aimed at introducing young riders to the fundamentals of biking, promoting physical activity and instilling confidence on two wheels.
Bikes on Demand Program
In partnership with RNP, IYC is excited to launch the Bikes on Demand program. This initiative will provide immediate access to bicycles and cycling equipment, enabling participants to join guided rides along the picturesque K&T Trail and experience the trail’s recent enhancements. Targeted at underserved communities, this program emphasizes IYC’s commitment to making cycling accessible to all, fostering inclusivity and encouraging outdoor adventure among Philadelphia’s youth.
Community Impact and Inclusivity
These initiatives represent IYC’s dedication to community engagement and inclusivity. By introducing innovative programs like the Bike Skills Rodeo and Bikes on Demand, we aim to reach a broader audience, including underserved and underrepresented groups, and to highlight the transformative power of cycling. Our collaboration with RNP and other community partners reinforces our commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all participants.
Join Us
We invite the community to join us at Fish Fest 2024 to celebrate the joys of cycling and outdoor recreation. Together, we can inspire the next generation of cyclists, promote health and wellness, and contribute to the vibrant tapestry of Philadelphia’s riverfront communities.
