IYCX Week of Mon July 22

Hello IYC Cyclocross Team Members, Coaches and Parents!

Happy Monday. We hope you all were able to take advantage of the slightly cooler temps this weekend and get some riding in. You may have seen an event invite for the celebration at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in honor of all youth and coaches that raced MTB Nationals this past week. Coach John Raisch will be present and attendance does require an RSVP to the Valley Preferred. Please see invite for instructions and let us know if you will attend.

Ready to corner like MVP or Lucinda Brand?? I think we would all love that! Which brings me to the next IYC Cyclocross team training event invite that went out for August 18th. Be ready, this one is aimed to get each and every one of you primed with the skills you’ll need to race ‘cross. If you have a conflict and can’t make it, please let us know as soon possible.

Weekly Rewind

Team members Selah and Pearson took on the 2024 Mountain Bike National Championships at Bear Creek, a very technical and challenging course. Coach John Raisch helped sweep the course.

Coach Dave Berson placed the initial Team Kit order. Thanks to Voler our primary sponsor all of our first wave of cyclocross team members got a free kit! The estimated time of arrival for the kit order will be end of August. We will plan on distributing the kits prior to the first race of the season.

Monday Mentions

Shout outs to Pearson and Selah who raced in the 2024 Mountain Bike National Championships. Both Pearson and Selah raced in the CAT 1-2 Categories within their respective age groups. For Selah this was her first time racing in the CAT 1-2 AND in her new age group 15-16. She missed the qualifier round by only 3 seconds due to a crash that had happened in front of her causing her to lose time.

Join me in congratulating Pearson and Selah for their strong efforts at Nationals!

WOTW – Workout of the Week

We are inching closer and closer to cyclocross season! For this week let’s continue to get some fun rides in on our ‘cross bikes (MTB if you don’t have one yet).

Aim for 2-3 fun rides this week and maybe one can bit a bit longer.

A unique part of ‘cross is the ability to get on and off our bikes smoothly and run with it if needed. Sometimes through mud, up a hill, through a tricky section or just over the barriers.

So this week let’s add some running to our workout.

While at the park, or school, wherever you are riding you cx bike do some running drills. These can be whatever you want. Some ideas include: Find a set of steps, a small hill, some single track and create your own off road circuit. Change it up and run it the opposite direction. Find little roots and rocks to jump over, find a hill and run on the off camber. Get creative!

Feel free to post about your adventures and share with the group!
